CINEMA AND OTHER MEDIA

—What is a symbol?

— To say one thing while meaning another.

— Why not say it directly?

— Because there are certain phenomena that disappear when we approach them without the proper ceremony.”

Literature

“Sunday night. The sound of the ambulance siren rushes by. Back and forth. More than fifty sirens have crossed the Avenida dos Africanos, once so full of reggae, but now—these days—completely deserted of people. The smell of hibiscus awakens the body, moving it towards the stove, where Mariana left the kettle forgotten, already burnt. The hand turns off the heat, and the body leans in, letting itself be enveloped by the sticky steam of that hibiscus tea. Mariana dreams of her mother's vatapá, served with cuxá rice and pepper. It's all sour and delicious, like dancing a stone pressed against Dinho’s sweaty thigh. Dinho. So much longing and delight mixed in these times of touchless gestures.”

— Short story "Radiola Dream"
